Listing out a few credit cards/Debit card tips here from my own experience.
For online transactions, there is no need for Pin but need CVV which can be found the backside of the cards. Just erase the CVV as soon as you get the card and store somewhere else. For international transactions, OTP is not required, so CVV is important.
While storing the CVV, just use +1 or -1 as keys, for ex: if your CVV is 7 6 2 and you use +1, it should be stored as 8 7 3, Even if you lost the card it is very difficult to use online. Even though mobile OTP is in places, sometimes we may lose both (like losing purse along with mobile). They easily takeout of your SIM card and use the OTP for transactions.
Store your card numbers somewhere, when you lost the cards and call to customer care, they will ask the credit card number first before blocking it immediately.
Don’t take all cards along with you every time, most of us having multiple cards to avoid theft/loss
Take some card plans like CPP which will give peace of mind when your cards misused and cover the losses also helps to block all cards in a single call.
If possible remember card numbers and expiry dates instead of carrying them for online uses (even though remembering only CVV is good enough if you already store your cards with retailers like Amazon/Flipkart and others)
Never store/write your PIN along with the card, if you want can use the above encryption methods (+1/-1), but better to remember it.
For all new sites or fewer amount transactions use UPI (any UPI based apps including BHIM, Google Pay, Phone Pe, PayTM or your own banks UPI), it is easy to track the expenses without exposing card details everywhere
In a few intervals just replace the cards, even though some banks charge Rs.100 or so, it is useful to protect the cards better. It is just easy through your net banking app too.
After expiry of the cards, just split into 2 parts and destroy it
Use interest-free EMIs when available, but try to avoid normal EMIs as much as possible
Use your cards wisely to get the discounts online or offline along with points. Most of the time online retailers like Amazon, Flipkart gives additional discounts on Cards (both credit cards and debit cards)
Limit using credit cards up to 50%, it helps to maintain a credit score
Pay on-time, and use Apps like Cred to make the payments to get the points as well as convenience
Keep on checking your Cibil score for free using different providers every 3 months like TransUnion CIBIL, Equifax and Experian.
Always avoid withdrawing cash from Credit cards
Try to use debit cards in same bank ATM Cards as there are limits of free transactions which varies from bank to bank
Never keep the pin number of credit cards and debit cards the same. You might accidentally insert credit card in atm and different pin numbers will probably help you avoid credit card withdrawals (Suggested by Nishant Kanhurkar )
Block international transactions in your Card if you are not going to use
